Getting ready for the move

I bought paint! Okay it's probably silly but this is the first time I have ever been able to paint a place we were living and lived there long enough to feel it was worth it. Or maybe it's just with Wil being deployed I'm looking for a fun project. Well I don't get the keys for the house until Tuesday but the paint I wanted was on sale this weekend so I went ahead and bought it. Plus this way I'll be able to paint before our stuff gets moved over - much easier to paint with no furniture in the room. I'm only doing the section of wall below the chair rail so it shouldn't take too long to do either. I ended up going with a different no VOC paint than I had originally planned - Olympic was much cheaper than Benjamin Moore. The colors I ended up choosing are Majestic Mount (kind of a weird name but I think it refers to "purple mountain majesties") for Abigail's room, and Fudge for the baby's room.

4 Months down

It's not even 8 am and we've already had a great start to the day:

* Wil was able to call this morning for the first time since leaving Kandahar, we only talked for about seven minutes when we got disconnected but it had been a week since he's been able to call so it was so great to hear his voice.

* I also got an e-mail from him with lots of suggestions for the motorcycle

* It looks like the rumors about packages taking two months to get to their new location were false because he received a package from his mom there yesterday that only took eight days to arrive. (Thanks Mom Cr - he really enjoyed it, the letters especially).

* Abigail is still sleeping, yeah! I was hoping she would sleep late, we were out past her bedtime picking some friends up from the airport but you never know with her.

* And last we've hit the four months down mark! And I'm expecting the next three months to fly by due to having lots of projects to work on for the new house.

Great Day

Overall a great day:

+ Wil was able to e-mail me (after a week of no contact) but it still sounds like calls and e-mails will be few and far between for the time being. Hopefully once they get up and running things will get back to the level of communication we had when he first moved to Afghanistan.

+ Abigail has gone on the potty 7 times today, including her first number two on the potty ever (TMI, I know), wore big girl underwear for her nap for the first time, and has also been without a diaper for most of the day with no accidents.

- The battery on the motorcycle was dead so even though one of the other "Ugly" wives sacrificed some of her remaining time with her dad before he goes back to the mainland, we were unable to get the motorcycle moved over to the new house.

Potty Training

After some inspiration from my Mom and her relaying to me the information from an article by John Rosemond we are making strides in potty training Abigail. Initially when my mom was telling me the information I thought it was ridiculous, too harsh and several other things. But after thinking it over I realized that while Rosemond advocated taking things to a level I wasn't comfortable with that I could tweak his method to something less harsh. The next morning I had Abigail sit on the toilet until she went. It took forty-five minutes but she went, which I haven't been able to get her to do in months of using a more "child-centered" potty training method. The first week or so was very stressful with many similarly lengthed sessions but now when I get her to the potty at the right time (immediately after she wakes up or an hour or so after she went the last time) she usually goes within five minutes. I'm waiting until we move to the new house (all tile floors, no carpet) to take it further. I bought Abigail some Disney princess underwear to switch her to and after we make the move I plan on leaving her in those during the day. Hopefully this will get her to take the next step in potty training - telling me when she needs to go.

That's me!

"Back when talking on the phone was all the rage, people without call waiting were akin to someone isolating themselves from every possibility of communication, perhaps even on purpose. Today they are the same people who refuse to try Facebook on principle . . ."
